It’s always a race for traffic, this thing we call internet marketing. The faster we are able to generate visitors for our websites, the more visitors we are able to garner, the more sales (or clicks, if such were the case) we can have. Hence, the statement “traffic is the lifeblood of any online business,” which rings a thousand truths.
Now, there are many, many established ways by which you can generate traffic for your website. Article marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), traffic exchange, mailing lists, blogs, RSS, paid and free advertising and the likes are just some of them.
But buried beneath these popular strategies is one technique that is just as efficient, if not more potent than the rest. It’s called eZine advertising, and it can potentially generate instant – yes, INSTANT – traffic for your website… traffic which a savvy online businessman can immediately convert into profit.
It’s Not Free
The first thing we should place on the table is the fact that eZine advertising is not free. You will have to pay for a spot, generally speaking at least.
Ezine advertising has become the business of many internet marketers. They build their mailing lists into staggering numbers, then they work their best to attain a high response rate from the same. This is their leverage. And this is, basically, what you will pay for to gain access to.
Of course, if you have a friend who has an eZine with a wide readership, you may be able to land a spot for free. Better yet, if you can offer the eZine editor something in return aside from advertising fees, you may be able to land a spot with minimal or no financial investments involved.
Choosing The Right Ezine
There are two main characteristics you should look for when choosing between a series of eZines. You will want to deliberate on each eZine’s respective characteristics to be able to make the most out of your investment.
These characteristics are:
1. Number of subscribers. You will want your business message to reach as many people as possible. Hence, it is critical that you find an eZine that actually has a big readership. Always aim for eZine with 10,000 or more subscribers. This will give you the most bang for your buck.
2. Response rate. Of course, readership means nothing if none of the subscribers have proven for conversion. Hence, it is likewise vital that you find an eZine that has a high response rate. A response rate of 15% or more is ideal. But 7% up will be fantastic as well. Naturally, if you can find an eZine with a higher response rate, go for it!
These characteristics should always be present, at high numbers and percentages at that. An eZine may have a readership of only 2,000, but at 50% response rate, you have a chance to win 1,000 sales. On the other hand, an eZine with a readership of 20,000 but with a pathetic response rate of 1% will only give you the possibility of bagging 200 sales.
One characteristic complements the other, but it will be best if both of them are high.
Choosing The Right Ad
There are many options for eZine ads presented by editors. You can have a single line advertisement at the beginning of the issue, which is often introduced by the words “this edition is brought to you by.” You can have a single line of advertisement at the end of the issue as well. The former is a more effective option, of course, but it will cost more.
Some eZine editors will even allow you to use an entire issue to advertise your business message. This costs the most, naturally, but it is the choice that is capable of pulling the most sales.
